The U.S. Division of Power’s (DOE’s) Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) launched a request for information (RFI) to solicit suggestions from stakeholders on the Power Effectivity Scaling for Two Many years (EES2) Initiative and the draft EES2 Analysis and Improvement (R&D) Roadmap that accompanies this RFI. The roadmap outlines the expertise R&D wanted to extend the power effectivity of semiconductor purposes 1,000-fold over the subsequent twenty years.
Semiconductive supplies, reminiscent of silicon, are used to assemble very important elements of industrial-scale knowledge facilities, smartphones, computer systems, photo voltaic cells, electrical autos, and lots of different merchandise that hundreds of thousands of Individuals use day by day. Over the past 30 years, power effectivity enhancements within the merchandise made by the semiconductor trade have fallen out of tempo with the surging international demand for computing and synthetic intelligence applied sciences.
Since 2010, general semiconductor software power use has doubled each three years, and by 2030, if this fee of improve continues, the semiconductor trade might eat almost 20% of world power manufacturing. The EES2 Nationwide Initiative goals to place the semiconductor trade again on the trail of doubling power effectivity each two years to extend the financial competitiveness of American microelectronics producers and to strengthen home clear power provide chains.
AMMTO seeks enter from trade, academia, analysis laboratories, authorities businesses, and different stakeholders on points associated to power effectivity within the semiconductor trade, significantly for computing purposes. Suggestions on the preliminary model (1.0) of the roadmap that accompanies this RFI is of particular curiosity.
With this RFI, AMMTO seeks enter on the next three classes:
- EES2 initiative targets and aims
- Roadmap doc
- Course of and future steps.
Suggestions will even be important to the EES2 Initiative, which not solely goals to boost the semiconductor trade and its merchandise’ power effectivity, but in addition goals to fast-track the appliance of those applied sciences throughout totally different sectors and guarantee speedy adaptation to ever-evolving market and environmental calls for.
Responses to the RFI have to be submitted electronically to micro.electronics@ee.doe.gov no later than 5 p.m. ET on September 30, 2024.
