Residents in Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford will now have the ability to recycle a wider vary of plastic gadgets of their family combined recycling bin, says Larger Manchester Mixed Authority, following modifications to its recycling amenities and to the current contract extension with SUEZ Recycling and Restoration UK.
This week marks Nationwide Recycle Week (14 to 18 October) which is concentrated on rescuing gadgets that may be recycled, and from 14 October, residents in these boroughs will now have the ability to recycle clear plastic gadgets like:
- Plastic pots (e.g. yoghurt, soup, cosmetics and many others)
- Plastic tubs (e.g. margarine, laundry powder, sweets and many others)
- Plastic trays together with black plastic trays (e.g. uncooked and cooked meat, fruit and veg punnets and many others)
This stuff can now be put within the combined recycling bin, alongside:
- Plastic bottles (e.g. milk, pop, bleach, cleansing merchandise, set off sprays, shampoo)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Meals tins and drinks cans
- Aerosols
- Foil
Because the council defined, plastic movies like crisp packets, bread luggage, pet meals pouches and service luggage, nonetheless can’t be recycled. “People can throw plastic films into their household bin, where they’ll be burned to generate electricity for the region. However, we are planning to collect these types of plastic for recycling in the future once the new MRF is operational. Hard plastics like garden furniture or children’s toys can be taken to any Recycling Site in Greater Manchester.”
Cllr Tom Ross, Portfolio Lead for Waste and Recycling, mentioned: “Signing the largest waste administration contract in Europe with SUEZ has given us the soundness and confidence to spend money on our recycling amenities. We’re already within the prime 5 authorities within the UK for recycling charges and this may assist us to proceed main the way in which.
“With the Authorities’s Less complicated Recycling Coverage on the horizon, we’ve got taken swift motion to organize for the approaching modifications, to make sure we’ll be compliant when the brand new guidelines are available in.
“These upgrades will keep up our momentum on recycling, giving us time to build our new, cutting-edge materials recovery centre in Manchester while supporting residents to recycle more easily.”

Working with GMCA, this is just one of the many improvements we’ve made to waste services in Greater Manchester in recent years, including increased recycling rates, a near-zero landfill rate, and an innovative reuse project at the Greater Manchester Renew Hub.”
